DIE NIBELUNGENSAGE ( The Story)

After killing a horrible dragon and conquering the huge treasure of the Nibelungs, young Siegfried from Xanten comes to the King´s court in Worms.
He wants to marry Kriemhild, sister of King Gunther. The King agrees under one condition: Siegfried shall help him to win Brünhild the Queen of Island to be his wife.
Brünhild has superficial powers and she only takes the one for her man who is able To defeat her in three competitions.
With the help of the invisible making Magic Hood Siegfried conquers Brünhild.
She accepts Gunther as her husband and moves to Worms.
When she denies to share the bed with him it is again Siegfried now husband of Kriemhild who has to help . With the Magic Hood he defeats her at night in the nuptial bed so that Gunther can deflorate her. On this opportunity he takes away Brünhildes ring and belt and gives it to Kriemhild.
Some time later:
Gunther invites Siegfried and Kriemhild( who in the meantime live in Xanten) to come to Worms. During a feast to honour the guests it comes to a quarrel between the Queens. Siegfried , once in Island introduced to Brünhild to be the Vassal of Gunther insists on the subordination of Siegfried among Gunther.
Kriemhild counters: Her husband Siegfried has slept with her first.
As a proof she presents the ring and the belt. Brünhild sinks into deepest
shame, grief and hate.
Hagen von Tronje, most powerful Vassal of Gunther wants to revenge his
humiliated mistress. Decietfully he elicts the secret of the one vulnerable point at Siegfried´s back, that stayed free because of a linden leaf, when he had a bath in the blood of the slayed dragon.
On a hunting excursion in the Odenwald (other versions say it was in the Vosges) he pushes his spear between Siegfried`s shoulderblades.
Kriemhild having a vague knowing about who killed her husband stays in Worms
as a mourning widow. With the help of the Nibelungs Treasure that Siegfried had given to her, she attracts foreign heroes to come to Worms to strengthen her power -a danger that Hagen recognizes very clearly : he takes the treasure away from Kriemhild and sinks it into the River Rhine.

13 years later:
Kriemhild´s time for revenge has come. She marries the powerful King of the Huns: Etzel and enforces him to invite her brothers, Gunther, Gernot and
Giselher to come to Hungary. All warnings of Hagen and others of this dangerous trap of revenge are invane. The brothers move to Hungary followed by a huge retinue. Kriemhild successfully unleashes a battle between the Nibelungs and the Huns. One after another is killed, finally only Gunther and Hagen are still alive. Kriemhild demands the Treasure from Hagen, but he will not reveal the hiding place as long as one o fits his masters are still alive. Therefore Kriemhild orders the beheading of Gunther: but this is Hagen` s triumph: now he is the only one who knows the secret place-and he will never reveal it.
Kriemhild beheads the chained one and therefore is killed by the old armourer Hildebrand.
